Delicious things i’ve eaten since discarding my Lenten vow to eat no meat
- Mini-burgers with fries at Poag Mahone’s: Two co-workers were leaving, so my dept took them out for one last lunch. I love burgers any old way, but in miniature? Delicious and adorable.
- Grilled lamb at Cafe Iberico: Adrienne ordered this. Actually, maybe I didn’t have any, but I was sorely tempted.
- seafood feast at Joe’s Stone Crab : Yeah.
- filet mignon at Maria and Clancy’s wedding reception: It was served with a lobster tail, too.
- semolina fritters at Thai Urban Kitchen: I don’t know what these were stuffed with, but whatever it was was AWESOME. Shrimp? Maybe pork? The fritters were crispy and crunchy and gave way to a savory, chewy filling that didn’t feel heavy or gross.
- crepes at Khloe & Jeff’s: vegetable curry crepes, wheat crepes with boeuf bourguignon, and a galette.
- today, fried chicken wings and french fries at Crisp: The wings were coated in Seoul Sassy sauce, “[a] subtly sweet sauce prepared with ginger, soy, garlic and other select spices.” Seriously delicious.

I’ve actually been doing well with the “no meat except fish” thing. Except that Thursday I had some mini-burgers for a co-worker’s goodbye lunch. I couldn’t help — I have a weakness for food in miniature. Chomp chomp — it was yummy.
I had dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab — OMFG, it was delicious. I may go back and just do sides. Jennie’s Potatoes. Fried asparagus. Maybe get the fried green tomatoes, which I didn’t order last night. Mashed sweet potatoes!
Oh, and I very nearly lost my wallet (containing my green card — cringe) today. I found it lying in the street after I’d put it on the roof of Adrienne’s car, which was parked on a quiet side street in Wicker Park. Kathy came along as we retraced our steps, and was there to admonish me (if only slightly) when I found it, lying in the spot, undisturbed. It wasn’t even wet or covered in dirty snow. Kathy told me to go to church, and thank Jebus, and I think that’s a fantastic idea.

It’s too cold to do much of anything except eat a bologna sandwich (which was just kinda whatever — I think I may have to fry the next one) and figure out what to make for dinner tonight. Meat loaf? Fried chicken? A pound of bacon? The meat possibilities, they are endless.
Meanwhile, there’s a “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ marathon on TLC, so I guess what I know I’ll be doing for the rest of the afternoon.

This is for yesterday, which was long and very fun. Started with tapas at Cafe Iberico with Kathy and Adrienne, where I ate no meat, but I could not resist the calamares a la plancha. Afterwards, the Chicago Auto Show, where much foolishness did occur. And no meat passed my lips. Woot!
And while we’re talking about the Auto Show — very little in the way of attractive people. Lots of, um, mouth-breathers. Mean, I know, but next year, I think we’re gonna get tickets to the “First Look” preview. If only so there will be less people to push out of the way when we need to get into the passenger seat of yet another car for more pictures.

On Fridays, my employer brings in a catered lunch. Today we had Chinese food, so lots of beef and chicken. And veggie options, so I didn’t have to suffer from a lack of beef & broccoli. I ate stir fried vegetables, vegetable fried rice, and vegetable spring rolls. Delicious. Also, I snuck some noodles with shrimp — tasty indeed.
There’s always leftovers, so I may pack up some beef and kung pao chicken for Sunday. Thank goodness for feast days! I was tempted to eat some beef, as it smelled good, but then I remembered I didn’t make it to Mass for Ash Wednesday, so not chowing down on some cow was the very least I can do.

I had a can of clam chowder for dinner last night. Eek. It was kinda gross. I think I need to find a restaurant that serves the good stuff, or at least learn how to make it myself. And how long until Sunday?
